7. Eiffel Tower, France🇫🇷

Built under Napoleon III's reign for the Exposition Universelle (World Fair) of 1889. There are many different types of metal used to create this structure, but they were not able to find a strong enough type that was going to last them. So they ended up using wrought iron, which turned out to be a bad idea. Wrought iron is weak, flimsy, and can become quite rusty if it gets wet long enough. Eventually, rusting would ruin the look of the tower's spires, so workers coated each individual piece of the tower with a special paint that could resist rust. They also tried painting the entire thing, but eventually gave up because the tower is too tall for people to reach the top and do any work without ladders. Even with the best paint job money can buy, the tower has been slowly deteriorating over time while being exposed to the elements for almost a hundred years.
